Sandy Shore Beach Craft

While there's nothing like a gentle sea-breeze and the sound of waves coming ashore, you don't have to be coastal to teach your preschooler all there is to know about the beach. This fun beach craft offers an immersive lesson on the beach all while tapping into great sensory and STEM skills.

Here's what you need:

  • 3/4 Cup of sand
  • Seashells
  • 1/2 Cup all purpose flour
  • 1 Cup warm water
  • 1/2 Cup salt
  • Shaving cream
  • Ocean figures
  • Blue food coloring
  1. Mix together the sand, flour and salt in a large bowl
  2. Slowly add the warm water, mixing as you go. Pour until you get a nice doughy consistency. Don’t worry if your mixture getstoo sticky -- just add more sand or flour
  3. Once combined, take it out of the bowl and knead it on a lightly floured surface
  4. You should have enough dough to split into 2-4 round shapes
  5. Have each child place one hand in the center of the round
  6. Add seashells around your creation then set out to air-dry
  7. Once dried, mix your shaving cream and blue food coloring
  8. together in a shallow pan to make “water”
  9. Place your dried sand shore next to your “water”
  10. Ask your kids which ocean figures go in the water or sand
